The sky had been bleak for many sunrises and sunsets. It was hovering over the ground like a veil of darkness smothering the planet. No birds dared set out into the treacherous sky, just as no mouse would lift its head and look up. The only life that dared attempt to breech the veil was man. He would send his machines into the air and he would fly, regardless of the dark brooding of his mother. The sky, as if in reply to man's defiance, sent wave after wave of attacks. It began as a large drop of water slowly falling to the ground, but almost the exact moment the orb shattered, an infinitely larger amount of drops took its place.
The sheets of ocean mercilessly collapsing onto the roofs of the frail houses of man seemed to shake the earth, and the roaring thunder of the clouds inspired fear into every heart. The blasts of lightning from the heavens destroyed everything they touched, while the falling sea washed away the debris.
The mice and the birds hid in their nests. Man did not. Man left the measly protection of his buildings and he moved on in defiance of the sky. The earth roared with anger as its mighty tears pelted everything on its surface. A brief gust of air flew across the land, followed by a much larger and angrier blast of wind. It began spiraling around, sucking the clouds toward the ground. It touched the ground and destroyed man's hard earned creations. As it swept across the land, nothing stood in its path capable of destroying it.
The birds and the mice hid. Man did not. Man looked around in wonder and watched in amazement, but he did not stop. The tears of the earth were flowing throughout all of the land, but man would not stop. the roar of the earth filled every empty crevice, but man would not stop. The fury of the earth striking man with lightning and throwing him into the air with wind destroyed countless buildings and lives, but man would not stop.
Finally, man's mother went silent. She stopped crying and stopped shouting; stopped destroying and stopped hating. The sky broke open and the father's light filled the earth. The dark grays and blacks turned to bright oranges and blues and greens.
Now, man stopped. He looked around in wonder at the beauty of the earth. He looked at the sheer power of his mother. He looked at the sky; at his father's loving light. Finally, He looked at the birds singing their song and the mice scavenging for food. He looked around and he stopped at what he saw. He was humbled. He wept. As his tears of joy flowed down his face he was still, and the earth was still, and the sky was still. All was peaceful; all was tranquil. All was good.
